How children act and react to the world as they achieve a sense of self is fascinating. This is evident in their patterns of play, displaying their engagement with the world.
Early childhood development psychologist’s asserted that play was a child’s work. This ongoing project stems from a curiosity of these worlds that we, as adults, are excluded from.
The child in this photograph is shown with his dinosaur tail he made for World Book Day. I often photograph children in the midst of establishing a sense of self, sometimes being in transformation from one state to another - here child to youth; not quite ready to leave behind some parts of being a child yet displaying a teenager quality in other aspects.
